Production still

While I continue to work on the 6th and hopefully final draft of the storyboard I have also been making some progress with the production still: a freeze frame of the film which will allow people to visualise what it will look like when finished.

Steve Hounslow– who made the set for Technical Hitch– has kindly been helping me make a mock-up pub set for the still. My task now is to finish painting and assembling the set and to make the props. After this is complete I will make the model of the old man for which I will have to a good deal of research but which I hope will not prevent me from having the still finished by the end of the month.

Pub Research

To make sure I get the details right when designing the pub set (where the film begins) I have taken some photos which focus on some of the elements which suggest an English pub, such as the colour of the walls, the furniture, and decoration. My thanks to The Junction and The Falcon pubs for letting me post these photos.

My next move, in tandem with storyboarding, is creating a production still similar to the image below, but this time, instead of a flat image of the lead character, I will make up a model, light it and photograph it so as to give an idea of what the finished film will look like.

Introduction

You are in an English pub. It is mid-week and mid-morning and the place is empty and dark, empty except for the barman, and an old man sitting at a table over by the window.

Your eyes rest on the man, he sits in profile with the bright arched window behind him giving his dark figure the look of a stained-glass effigy. But who is the effigy of? A knight of renown? A great hero? A patron saint? No. It’s none of these. It’s just a hopeless old soak finishing his second pint of the morning before heading off to the bookies. And yet, even knowing that, you still don't look away.

Storyboard 1st draft

First of all, welcome to the blog; I hope you find it interesting!

As things stand I am currently focusing on producing a first draft of the storyboard for George which will outline the film's story in sketch form. I am producing the boards quickly so I can have a rough story which I can then chisel away at.

I hope to have this draft finished in the next couple of weeks– below are a few frames to give a feel of the film's atmosphere. I should say that I won't be putting any more storyboard images up as I don't want to give much away about the film's plot.
